The Nantong Administration for Market Regulation became the first in Jiangsu Province to launch a new system that centers on the position of food safety director.
The move aims to establish an accountability mechanism, improve food safety through appropriate incentives, make sure responsibility and authority correspond with one another, and urge food enterprises to get safety work to be well-organized and regulated.
Cui Xiaoyong, deputy head of the Nantong Administration for Market Regulation, said the position’s responsibilities include organizing the food safety management, managing the training and assessment of relevant employees, steering the product R&D and technology upgrade, establishing a food safety traceability system, and organizing the recall and treatment of substandard products.
One-third of Nantong's food companies above designated size have appointed their food safety director. The city will further promote the new system in more companies and effectively enhance the level of food safety.
