Nantong Xingdong International Airport became the first airport in Jiangsu Province to be fully covered by the next generation 5G network on April 21.

The service is provided by the Nantong branch of China Mobile, the biggest of the country’s three telecom majors. According to the company, the 5G network covers the security check hall, terminal, office and commercial areas in the terminal building, and the outdoor apron to ensure constant connection whether indoors or outdoors.

Nantong Xingdong International Airport is a large important comprehensive transportation hub in Nantong City and a vital entry gateway and a trunkline airport in the province. Many of the passengers it serves are roaming users and their high mobile traffic demands can now be met.

The airport and Nantong branch of China Mobile will continue cooperation to promote the "5G + Smart Airport" initiative and provide passengers with a more intelligent and convenient travel experience.

Similar developments are underway in other airports in Jiangsu. At the beginning of this year, Nanjing Lukou International Airport completed the first phase of its 5G deployment project, covering its T2 terminal building, security check, and office area. Full coverage will be realized by May.

Part of Sunan Shuofang International Airport in Wuxi has also been covered by a 5G indoor network.
