On November 29, the National Cultural Heritage Administration announced the latest archaeological findings at the Sidun Site in Tianning District of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province.

The findings shed light on the formation and development of prehistoric society in the Taihu Lake area, providing a new perspective for studying regional civilization in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

A Neolithic site dating back 4,500-5,500 years, Sidun spans approximately 1.5 million square meters with an oval mound in the center, surrounded by more than 10 small flat foundations and encircled by dual water systems.

Researchers from Nanjing Museum began excavation at the site in 2019 and have uncovered ruins of 40 tombs, stilt-style buildings and wells. The funerary objects unearthed include jade ware. Six pottery pots were also discovered from the wells, one of which is an exquisite pot with the image of bird in red, yellow and black colors.
