Jiangsu will host 1,041 online and on-site activities to celebrate the 2023 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, according to the province's Department of Culture and Tourism at a conference on June 5.
These activities will include 607 events associated with intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and the rest will focus on cultural relics.
A launch ceremony will take place in Xixi scenic area in Dongtai, Yancheng City on June 10. The coastal province will release major activities, recommend ICH-themed travel routes, present successful communication cases of cultural relics, and reveal the third batch of creative ICH bases.
The launch will also mark the start of the fourth edition of a shopping festival dedicated to ICH preservation and development. This festival, held both online and on-site, will continue until the afternoon of June 12.
On Taishan Avenue in Xixi scenic area, on-site activities will primarily showcase ICH crafts, creations and signature foods from the province's workshops and time-honored brands, along with counterparts from the Yangtze River Delta region.
Jiangsu will encourage ICH enterprises and inheritors to open online stores and cooperate with platforms including Douyin to conduct live e-commerce and promotions. Representative ICH inheritors will share their creations and stories in live broadcasting.
At present, Jiangsu has 11 items recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. From mid-May to late June, the province's ICH protection center and Nanjing Museum Folklore Research Institute are holding a series of activities, such as an exhibition of achievements in documenting ICH masters at the national level and lectures on ICH protection.
In addition, from mid-May to mid-June, Jiangsu will promote public awareness of its three heritage items, which are part of "Traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China" on the UNESCO ICH list. These items are Suzhou's Biluochun tea, Nanjing's Yuhua tea and Yangzhou's Fuchun pastries, which complement well with tea.
