A cloud platform to promote Chinese culture overseas, launched by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, has proved to be a great success.
An innovative use of the Internet, the platform hosts courses on a broad range of topics, such as traditional Chinese culture, the Grand Canal culture, and Jiangsu’s local culture. Such content shows the historical relics, urban landscape and cultural legacies from multiple perspectives, a great help to overseas Chinese teenagers.
For example, the "Chinese Culture Cloud Classroom" offers a series of 16 courses on Chinese singing and dancing, appreciation of ancient poetry, paper-cutting, shadow puppets, and Jiangsu's home-made dishes. The "Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Project" offers courses on drawing landscape, flowers and birds as well as writing Chinese characters in different styles. Learners can also access 30 courses on Grand Canal culture focusing on five cities, Nanjing, Xuzhou, Yangzhou, Changzhou and Suzhou, and intangible cultural heritages.
The initiative is a joint effort of 59 scholars from famous academies and well-known artisans as well as 136 outstanding teachers with rich experience in education. Over ten months, the program has attracted the participation of overseas Chinese schools and language training centers in more than 40 countries and regions. An effective alternative to classes closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the online learning sources received 300,000 visits of overseas teenagers and 20 million likes.
