Gabonese President visits Jiangsu, expresses hopes for enhanced cooperation

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and his wife visited Jiangsu from September 6 to 7, after attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing.

In a meeting with President Nguema, Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, said the province and Gabon have enhanced their cooperation in recent years, maintaining a good momentum of development.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gabon. Jiangsu will intensify personnel interactions, as well as economic, trade, and cultural exchanges with Gabon in celebration, and contribute to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

When visiting Nanjing Museum on the morning of September 7, President Nguema expressed a strong interest in the tri-colored glazed camels of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), noting that camels were historically used to transport goods on the Silk Road, which facilitated trade and cultural exchanges between countries.

At the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, President Nguema and his wife toured the rice fields and cornfields while learning about the latest innovation in agricultural science and technology. Upon discovering that the academy’s high-quality rice varieties and cultivation techniques have been applied in South Africa, President Nguema expressed his hope for similar cooperative exchanges with the academy.

During the afternoon visit to NARI Group Corporation (State Grid Electric Power Research Institute), President Nguema took an interest in the dam safety monitoring technology developed by the group. He inquired about the application of smart meters, the capacity of emergency power supply vehicles, and other technical issues, hoping for closer cooperation with Jiangsu in the future.
