Jiangsu Province reported a total rail freight volume of 20.079 million tonnes in the first three months, an increase of 707,000 tonnes or 3.6%, compared to the same period last year.

The stable growth of cargo transported by trains and the green transition of Jiangsu’s modern logistics system provided strong support for the province’s high-quality development.

In March, Lianyungang, Xuzhou and Nanjing secured the top three places in Jiangsu in terms of rail freight volume. Notably, Lianyungang and Xuzhou together accounted for 80.2% of the total provincial volume.

The achievements were made as Jiangsu accelerated the restructuring of its transport network, giving priority to rail-waterway intermodal transport. Besides, the road-rail intermodal transport volume also increased 18.7% year-on-year to 408,500 TEUs.

The introduction of multimodal transport has aligned well with companies in Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou for export of electrical and auto parts. It has also facilitated cross-regional industrial collaboration, enhanced the transport capacity between coastal ports and inland cities.
