Jiangsu plans 23 bln yuan investment in port and water transportation

Jiangsu Province plans to invest 23 billion yuan in port and water transportation this year, according to a work conference recently held in Nanjing.

The coastal province invested 26.02 billion yuan in the construction of port and water transportation in 2023, representing a 34.8% increase compared to the previous year. Of this, 17.55 billion yuan was allocated to port construction, marking a 18.5% growth year-on-year. Notably, Lianyungang Port completed its second phase of the 300,000-tonne waterway project and started trial operation of a new 400,000-tonne ore terminal.

In last year, the province’s ports reported a cargo throughput of 3.51 billion tonnes, an 8.3% increase from the previous year.

For 2024, Jiangsu aims to invest 10 billion yuan for waterway construction, an increase of more than 65%. The province will ensure more than 1,000 kilometers of waterway under construction and complete the 300,000-tonne crude oil terminal in Xuwei Port Area of Lianyungang Port.
