Suzhou City saw 35 China-Europe freight trains transporting goods worth $134 million with 3,052 shipping containers in March, a year-on-year growth of 52.2 percent, 13.6 percent and 50.8 percent, respectively.
According to Suzhou Newcity Investment and Development, the China-Europe freight train service departing from Suzhou started in November 2012 and has developed into a market-oriented, integrated transport network to reach destinations in Europe, Asia and Russia.
In 2019, China-Europe cargo trains from Suzhou offered 269 services and transported 11,869 containers, up 33.83 percent and 41. 35 percent, respectively.
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought daunting challenges to the transport sector. Amid progress to combat the pandemic, Suzhou has seen the full resumption of cargo trains on the transcontinental route, up 14 percent than in the same period of last year.
Data also showed nearly 400 production companies based in Suzhou exported goods through the China-Europe freight train service.
