Wuxi’s three districts – Xinwu, Liangxi and Binhu- simultaneously launched delivery drone services on April 1.

Two drones will operate two routes in the city’s inaugural low-altitude logistics services, each covering a distance of 21.3 kilometers. Each flight can transport up to 10 kilograms with an average speed of 50 kilometres per hour.

Under normal conditions, the drone service can reduce transport time by about 65% and cut transport costs by 30%. Flight operations will not be affected by weather conditions, such as windspeeds of 13.9-17.2m/s and moderate rain, with 10-24.9 mm precipitation within 24 hours.

Li Tao, a deputy office director at Wuxi Post, said drone delivery overcomes barriers related to time, space, geography and traffic congestion, offering instant distribution and an efficient logistics solution.

Wuxi also aims to expand drone delivery services to Yixing, Jiangyin and Mashan as it explores the creation of a regional low-altitude logistics network. The city intends to meet the drone needs of commercial express delivery, urban governance and emergency response.
