The Jiangsu delegation to the second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, held its first plenary meeting on the afternoon of March 3.
Delegates elected Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress, as the leader of the delegation, with Xu Kunlin, Zhang Zhong, Chu Yonghong, Ma Xin and Fan Jinlong elected as deputy leaders.
In presiding over the meeting, Xin emphasized that 2023 was an important year in Jiangsu's development history. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, took part in a deliberation with deputies from the provincial delegation at the first session of the 14th NPC. Xi also visited Jiangsu twice and made important instructions. The province made notable progress in high-quality development in 2023 and achieved a good start in piloting the Chinese path to modernization.
Xin also said that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and a pivotal year for accomplishing the goals and tasks set forth in the 14th Five-Year Plan. He urged deputies to diligently fulfil their responsibilities and contribute positively to the session’s success.
