Jiangsu members ready for annual session of CPPCC National Committee

Jiangsu’s members of the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, have shared their expectations and proposals to promote high-quality development.

Zhang Qiao, deputy head of the Jiangsu Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party and also deputy mayor of Suzhou City, participated in three symposiums after the Spring Festival holiday. These meetings brought together representatives from enterprises, universities, institutes, and venture capital firms in Suzhou to address challenges in scientific and technological innovation and the application of technological achievements. Based on the feedback received, Zhang plans to submit a proposal to the second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. He is also eager to engage in discussions with other CPPCC members and incorporate their insights.

Hu Ya’an, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, dedicated half of the year to water conservancy research and site visits in Guangxi, Sichuan and other regions. Highlighting the crucial role of inland river shipping in fostering new development pattern, he plans to offer proposals at the annual session by drawing on his expertise.

Leng Jun, an advisor to NARI Group Corporation, expressed concern about uncoordinated development in the photovoltaic sector identified through his research in 2023. He advocates for better planning, enhanced equipment performance, and the establishment of supervision and control mechanism to guide the industry towards healthy growth.

Hu Zhen, chief expert at the China Ship Scientific Research Centre, emphasized the importance of bolstering basic research in deep-sea equipment technology following significant advancements in 2023. His proposal includes a detailed study of the research direction as well as the existing and emerging problems.

Changzhou’s deputy mayor Jiang Pengju, deputy chair of the Jiangsu Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, was finalizing a proposal the night before departing for Beijing. Over the past year, Changzhou has seen remarkable development, achieving a GDP exceeding one trillion yuan for the first time, driven by the new energy sector. His research identified variations in trading rules across domestic carbon markets. He called for more efforts to coordinate the central-local trading systems, and establish a unified carbon market regulatory framework.

Gao Jinfeng, principal of the Experimental Primary School Education Group in Jiangyan District, Taizhou City, plans to submit a proposal aimed at improving science education.

Wang Honghong, deputy secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, intends to propose measures to support the development of the private sector, and make public services more accessible for expatriates in China, based on her work and research.
