Yancheng City in East China’s Jiangsu Province has made great strides in building beautiful and livable villages, an initiative that centers on ecological progress, environmental protection and green development.
The city has renovated the houses of 21,684 rural families this year, more than half of the yearly target of 35,000 families, increasing the total number of such families to enjoy better living conditions to 91,641 over the past three years.
To build beautiful and livable villages, the city has taken full consideration of local conditions and experimented with innovative practices. In the first half of the year, Yancheng built 1,920 villages in line with the initiative’s standards. In addition, 54 villages won the provincial recognition as “characteristic and idyllic countryside”, and 20 villages were identified as “traditional villages at the provincial level”.
In implementing the initiative, Yancheng has increased the protection of traditional villages, promoted the rural historical legacies in urbanization and industrialization, and renovated the waterways comprehensively to highlight the distinctive charms.
