Yancheng City in Jiangsu Province introduced a guideline on May 28 to increase the subsidy of cochlear implantation for children with impaired hearing.
According to the plan, Yancheng will provide a subsidy of up to 120,000 yuan for the surgery and a maximum 60,000 yuan for device upgrade. The city has also relaxed the age limit for the program from 14 years old to 17 now. This means an almost free expense to have cochlear implant and device upgrade in the city, a great relief to families and a new progress to help the disabled.
Wang Manwen’s daughter just received the cochlear implantation on May 31. The mother said her family spent just about 10,000 yuan and could also apply for medical insurance reimbursement.
At present, Yancheng has 210 people under 18 who need cochlear implants and upgrade. The city plans to complete the cochlear implantation for all of them by the end of the year.
