Following a teleconference held by the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19, a meeting to coordinate state, Jiangsu provincial and Yangzhou city resources to curb the spread of the pandemic resurgence was held on the afternoon of August 8.

Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, said nucleic acid testing should be conducted in better and faster ways and meet the needs for more frequent and large-scale tests. It’s necessary to immediately start the contact tracing when a positive case is found, comply with strict measures in the transportation and quarantine, and provide an early intervention of traditional Chinese medicine.

Wu said the province should carry out effective medical treatment to patients, designate some hospitals for exclusive COVID-19 response, and also renovate some facilities to serve as rehabilitation centers.

During his visit to Yangzhou Second People's Hospital, Wu said, as the confirmed cases are usually in their old age and have underlying medical conditions, efforts should be made to integrate the province’s medical resources and combine traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine in offering treatment.

In Shuangqiao Sub-district of the city’s Hanjiang District, Wu expressed his gratitude to frontline workers and also learned about specific measures to ensure the supply of daily necessities to residents and how to look after the health of pregnant women, children and the elderly in the challenging times.

The provincial governor also said, during the COVID-19 response, it’s necessary to keep good communication, listen to people's opinions, improve psychological counseling services, and help address difficulties in a timely manner.
