March 22 marks the 29th World Water Day with a theme of “Valuing Water". Meanwhile, data from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development showed the province is home to 24 water-saving cities, ranking first in the country.
In 2020, Yancheng and Taizhou became the two new cities in Jiangsu to win the national recognition for water conservation. This also means all 13 cities that have subordinate districts have met the national water conservation standards.
The coastal province also made strides in improving the water environment. Wastewater treatment plants in all cities above the county-level have reached First Class-Level A standard in terms of pollutants discharge. A total of 68 "black and odorous" water bodies identified in central and north Jiangsu completed treatment, well ahead of schedule.
Amid progress in improving water environment and safety, Jiangsu will enhance urban drainage and flood prevention, strengthen the water environment governance, and achieve new progress in treating "black and odorous" water bodies in all cities above the county level in the province this year.
