Jiangsu to add 60,000 5G base stations this year

East China’s Jiangsu Province plans to build 60,000 5G base stations this year, according to officials of the Jiangsu Communication Administration during an interview on March 12.

Data showed 5G-enabled mobile phone users have reached 16 million in Jiangsu. Their average use of data was 16.3G per month, 30% higher than those of 4G users.

By the end of December 2020, the province had launched 71,000 5G base stations, including 59,000 new 5G stations last year alone, and completed investment of 14.6 billion yuan, both far beyond the yearly target.  Now 5G network is alleviable in all centra areas in cities, counties and districts, key towns, and development zones at the provincial level.

Jiangsu has the second largest number of 5G base stations in China, and the density of such stations is the fourth in the country. The province has been pushing forward 5G applications in the construction of the Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet and smart city initiatives.
