Jiangsu’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs unveiled key events planned for the rural tourism campaign this year during a press conference on March 11.

Zhu Xinhua, deputy director of the department, said the province has planned to carry out a series of innovative events in accordance with the characteristics of different seasons and holidays.

An economic powerhouse in China, the coastal province also boasts unique tourism resources in the countryside, attracting a growing number of urban dwellers for sightseeing, leisure and experiencing the life for villagers.

In this year’s campaign, the province will focus on promoting innovative ideas and marketing methods in various thematic farms, highlight the venues that host farming experiences and recreational activities, guide the qualified business entities to participate in the programs, and build popular destinations for visitors both young and old. The province will also support initiatives of promoting cultural creation and local dishes.

Zhu said all 13 cities that have subordinate districts in Jiangsu will hold at least one special event to boost rural tourism. Cities, counties and districts will also make full use of farming festivals or industrial strengths to organize events in the campaign.
