The standing committee of Nanjing People's Congress, the city’s legislature, held a press conference on July 15 to introduce a new regulation about elderly care service.

The regulation will come into effect on July 1 and will be fully implemented in Nanjing by the end of September.

To ensure implementation of 20 key tasks in the regulation, the city’s authorities have introduced four supportive policies concerning the distribution of pension, the government procurement of elderly care service to help those living at home, and renovation to facilitate elderly care.

For example, Nanjing citizens over 80 years will be provided with no less than two hours of free care services per month. The budget for elderly-friendly renovation project will be improved to 2,000 yuan per household. By the end of the year, the city will add 14 new day-care centers for the elderly and carry out renovation for 5,000 families with a senior who is unable to live independently.
