Nanjing rolled out an action plan on May 11 in order to put into practice an outline of the integrated regional development of the Yangtze River Delta, issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council in last year.
Nanjing’s action plan specifies goals both for different development stages and specific initiatives, thus forming a clear vision for the integration strategy implementation. Nanjing aims to make substantial progress and build it into a global city of innovation by 2025, reach a high level of development by 2035 with a modern economic system, and improve the institutional guiding over the integrated development.
According to the plan, Nanjing will participate actively in coordinated innovation, step up efforts to form a S&T innovation circle across the region, and build a joint technology transfer and service platform among Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Hefei, a S&T resource sharing and service platform, a S&T financial service platform, and a think tank network for S&T innovation. Meanwhile, Nanjing will also promote S&T innovation centered on the city itself in cooperation with surrounding cities, expand the influence and service to reach the delta region, improve the regional collaborative innovation system, and facilitate the flow of capital, technology and information for innovation.
Nanjing also outlines quantitative indicators to measure the performance in many undertakings, such as the city's urban-rural income gap, R&D investment intensity, railway and expressway network and 5G service coverage. These indicators are expected to work as guidelines and help drive Nanjing’s roles in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
As one of China's most economically active, open and innovative regions, the delta boasts strategic significance in the country's modernization and further opening-up, which makes its regional integration crucial for leading the country's high-quality development and building a modern economic system.
