Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Committee, inspected the province’s ecological and environmental protection work on July 8.

Lou said it’s important to work under the guideline of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, effectively improve the governance over environment protection, and strengthen efforts to build Jiangsu into a beautiful place.

In the Jiangsu Environmental Monitoring Center, Lou fully recognized the important role of monitoring in the environmental governance and encouraged the center to give full play to its role as both a monitoring institution and a research platform.

A wide and deep awareness of ecological civilization has come into existence across the province and helped address outstanding environmental problems, according to Lou. The province has made breakthroughs and experienced great changes in the undertaking of building ecological civilization.

Lou also said that Jiangsu has incorporated the goal of building ecological civilization into all aspects of economic and social development, regarded the mission to build a beautiful province as a strategic task important to the overall situation, strengthened urban and rural infrastructure planning and construction for the purpose of environmental protection.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Jiangsu province have joined hands to pilot the development of a modern governance system for effective environmental protection, the only such joint mechanism in China. Lou said Jiangsu will make full use of this cooperation and double efforts to explore more leading, trailblazing practices.

Environmental governance needs an integrated, systematic approach to coordinate pollution control and environmental industry development. The proven practices also need to be institutionalized.

Efforts are also needed to keep a dynamic balance among different concerns, such as pollution control, environmental protection, ecological improvement and risk prevention.

Enterprises will also be supported to pursue transformation for green development.
