Jiangsu Province launched its first shared platform to integrate smart services for electricity user, supplier and governmental departments in Jinhu County, Huai’an City, on May 14.

The platform can realize real-time monitoring of power usage data generated by equipment connected to the system, which can also perform remote control. The functions become possible by using a network of smart power devices and customized modules for home appliances, such as air conditioners and water heaters.

After data is automatically collected, the power supply department can conduct analysis and offer better service to electricity users.

Experts see its extensive application in agricultural operations, such as irrigation, ventilation and temperature control, with improved efficiency.

In the pilot project of a 200-mu (13.33-hecatre) greenhouse, the system is expected to replaces 30 workers and save labor cost of 900,000 yuan ($126,877) a year. For a 100-mu fish pond, it can save electricity cost of 3,000 yuan a year. If fully applied in the county’s 200,000 mu of fish ponds, the annual electricity cost can be cut by 6 million yuan.
