No new case of novel coronavirus pneumonia was reported in Jiangsu on March 4 while 15 cured patients were discharged from hospitals, according to Jiangsu Commission of Health.
The province has reported 631 confirmed coronavirus cases, 580 of which were discharged from hospital after recovery by the end of March 4.
According to medical professionals from the commission, 90 percent of the infected have been discharged from hospitals, among which the eldest is 97 years old while the youngest 10 months.
As the coronavirus pneumonia at the early phase is more easily treated, Jiangsu has been proactive in admitting patients immediately after confirmation, an approach that effectively prevents the development from mild to severe symptoms.
The province is also one of the first in China to launch online consultation platform for patients. It has developed the health declaration system for people returning to or visiting Jiangsu, which helps health check of high-risk people in a timely manner.
After the epidemic spread to Jiangsu in late January, the provincial health committee immediately divided the province into five large areas, and each expert group consists of specialists in respiratory disease, critical care and infection. Through telemedicine, medical professionals offer consultation services to critically ill patients across the province every day.
Another important measure the province has taken is to centralize the treatment of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia by moving them to designated hospitals with experiences in coping with infectious disease. Such efforts have helped curb the spread of the epidemic and cross-infection.
Of the 80 patients cured and discharged from hospitals in Nanjing, more than 90 percent underwent integrated treatment of TCM and Western medicine. The hospital stay of patients has been significantly shortened, and it took less time for the result of nucleic acid test to turn from positive to negative. TCM has contributed a lot to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
