Jiangsu Governor Wu Zhenglong chaired a meeting of the leading group for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 outbreak on March 7.

He called for continued efforts, scientific approach, precise and detail-oriented measures and closed-loop management in order to stop the COVID-19 spreading and also ensure both victories in the fight against the epidemic and economic and social development amid the deepening open-up.

The coronavirus can be deadly, but Jiangsu will offer the support and care to those affected by the epidemic, treating all visiting foreigners equally, regardless of nationality, and offering warm and thoughtful service. 

Jiangsu will actively help foreign-funded enterprises solve the difficulties and problems they encounter in fighting the epidemic and resuming work, bring together the forces to promote reform and opening up, and resolutely win the victories in the two-front battle - epidemic prevention and control as well as economic and social development. 

The meeting heard reports by the foreign-related panel under the leading group as well as other departments. Jiangsu has made a steady progress in the epidemic prevention and control, with low risk infection in the province’s all areas.   

However, Jiangsu now faces a higher risk of imported COVID-19 cases since it is an economic powerhouse with a large population, close international exchanges, a great number of foreigners and foreign-invested companies.

Jiangsu’s progress in the epidemic fight shall not be compromised by negligence. The province needs to continue the rigorous measures and pay attention to details in order to effectively reduce the infection risk and safeguard the hard-won achievement. Risks must be minimized through prudence, thorough efforts, scientific approach, and precise and detail-oriented measures.  

It is necessary to have a full picture of passengers arriving in Jiangsu by air, railway, highway, waterway and other transport modes and implement various measures for the quarantine, isolation and treatment in accordance with laws and regulations.  

Meanwhile, Jiangsu will improve the service and guarantee, adopt the flexible, accessible and people-centered management, avoid oversimplified and stiff practices, and try to win more people’s understanding and support.

Jiangsu will also strengthen the interdepartmental coordination, take the initiative to cooperate with Beijing, Shanghai and other regions, and establish a comprehensive, interconnected COVID-19 prevention and control mechanism.
