Organized by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the "Intangible Cultural Heritage at Your Doorstep" program was launched in Jiangning District of Nanjing City on March 16.
The event showcased over 100 intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items, including Nanjing’s velvet flowers, Wuxi’s clay figurines, and Xuzhou’s scented sachets. It also included culinary delights such as Pingqiao tofu, Tianmu Lake stewed fish head, and Huangqiao sesame cake, filling the site with mouthwatering aromas.
Master artisans were also on site to demonstrate their crafts. Zhang Xiyue from Lianyungang City transformed colorful shells into adorable crafts like kittens and rabbits, captivating many children.
Visitors were also drawn to the charming, brightly colored tiger-head shoes enhanced with beads and other accessories. Wu Lihua, a Nanjing artisan, said that these shoes are made from various materials and color combinations to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
The event also announced success stories in ICH design and community-based ICH projects to foster broader involvement in heritage preservation.
