The opening ceremony of “Jiangsu Week in Macau” was held in the special administrative region on December 9 in tandem with the 11th Summit for Commercial and Industrial Development of Jiangsu, Macau and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
The summit’s participants included officials from Chinese mainland, diplomats from Angola, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, Timor-Leste, Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau, and guests from Jiangsu, Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Hui Jianlin, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and also head of the United Front Work of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, called the city an important gateway for Jiangsu’s opening up and also one of its earliest trade partners. The summit, now in the 11th edition since 2011, has been a key platform to closely connect Jiangsu with Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries, said Hui.
As the global economy is undergoing deep adjustments and international competition is becoming fierce, it is a common choice for Jiangsu and Macau to deepen exchanges and cooperation and coordinate the development.
At the opening ceremony, the governments of Jiangsu and Macau signed a cooperation framework agreement for key areas during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, including high-level exchanges, S&T innovation, trade, modern service industry and education. The two sides also signed 10 cooperation projects.
The ceremony also featured the promotion of Jiangsu's service industry, the Charm of Jiangsu: The Grand Canal-Shaping Jiangsu's Land, People and Culture for Millennia (English edition) and the Charm of Jiangsu 3D Tourism Route.
December 9 also saw the opening of the Macau International Culture Industry Expo, the Lianyungang Promotion Conference, and the 11th Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Development Forum, which are all part of the Jiangsu Week in Macau.
