The government work report has proposed to advance well-coordinated environmental conservation in the Yangtze Economic Belt this year, which is also critical to secure a decisive victory in the battle against pollution.
Against this background, Jiangsu deputies of the 13th National People’s Congress, the country's top legislature, shared their views to promote ecological protection and green development.
Wang Tianqi, director of the Jiangsu Department of Ecological and Environmental Protection, said efforts have been made to protect and renovate the ecology of the river’s Jiangsu section through more robust conservation, holistic approach considering different factors, and initiatives to reduce pollution from the source and increase efficiency.
"In recent years, we have tried to address environmental issues of the Yangtze River, launched systematic and targeted campaigns, increased pollution control with unprecedented measures, and also made great strides in the process.”
Chen Jie, director of the Jiangsu Department of Water Resources, also said authorities have made goal-oriented, well-planed efforts, adopted a holistic thinking, and gave priority to protecting the Yangtze River. Jiangsu has completed 68 out of 596 protects, designated by central authorities to clean up the river’s shoreline, and will certainly accomplish the goal this year.
Ling Yi, executive director of the Organization Department of the CPC Nantong Committee, said Nantong has also increased efforts for ecological protection in two years, closed polluting companies, relocated the port, improved landscaping, and also built the national forest park. The city has achieved ecological renovation of 14 square kilometers and increased people’s sense of gain from high-quality development.
