The new bridge over the Mangdao River was joined on June 27, marking an important progress in building a smart highway for the strategic Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge.
The eight-lane project, about 33 kilometers long and located in the center of Jiangsu Province, links the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway in the north, forming the most convenient passage to cross the country’s biggest river in the Yangtze River Delta. It will also be built into a pioneering smart highway with the extensive use of new technologies when it opens in June next year.
Zhang Xiangqun, deputy head of the construction management, said the bridge over the Mangdao River is the key control of the highway and the connection means the success of overcoming many challenges as well as a solid step towards the full opening of the road.
Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu’s transportation authorities have made more efforts to ensure victory on two fronts - combating the COVID-19 outbreak and bolstering construction progress.
From January to June, the Jiangsu Bureau of Transport Engineering Construction was well-prepared and swift to resume work amid the COVID-19 disruptions. At present, the province’s 13 projects under construction all see smooth progress in quality and safety control and have no reporting of a single confirmed or suspected coronavirus case.
