The 2021 Jiangsu Provincial Transportation Work Conference, held on January 14, reviewed the achievements made in the past five years and also unveiled the development blueprint for the next five years.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Jiangsu plans to invest one trillion yuan in transportation infrastructure to form a comprehensive transport network capable of supporting world-class city clusters, and realize the strong and modern transport network as a pioneer in the country.
During the past five years, the province completed a total investment of 629.3 billion yuan in road, railway, water and air transport infrastructure, 160 percent of investment made in the 12th Five-Year Plan period. The province ‘s operational mainline railways reached 4,204 kilometers including high-speed line of 2,215 kilometers long. Smooth railway networks have taken shape in northern, central and southern Jiangsu. The province also built three new channels crossing the Yangtze River and construction of another six channels are underway.
Data also showed the province’s airports handled 72.3 million passengers and 1.695 million tons on average per year. Jiangsu has opened 85 international and regional flights to directly link with 55 cities in the world.
During the next five years, Jiangsu will strengthen the building of channels along the river, accelerate the transport network to support the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and give full play to the transport capacity of the great river. The province will improve the waterways along the coast, develop the Tongzhou Bay as a new gateway to the ocean, and make good planning of the coastal high-speed railway network. During the period, Jiangsu will also expand the transport capacity of the current Beijing-Shanghai line and build the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou railway and southern expressway. The province will enhance the function of transport hubs, improve the role of Nanjing in driving development in neighboring regions, and build international air hubs and regional logistic centers, finally bringing into existence an asterisk-shaped high-speed railway network well lined with the national lines.
