The 22nd China Xuyi International Crayfish Festival kicked off on May 18 at the modern agriculture industry service center in Xuyi County, East China's Jiangsu’s Province.
The festival also featured a sales campaign on e-commerce websites, drawing great attention among lovers of the renowned specialty from across the country.
Xuyi has actively promoted the development of intensive crayfish farming, with crayfish and rice often cultivated together in the same fields. Such combined rice-crayfish farming has a total area of 665,000 mu (44,333 hectares). More than 200,000 people are working in the county’s crayfish industry, which is worth over 10 billion yuan.
In recent years, Xuyi has won many honors for the specialty, such as Chin’s top county of ecological crayfish farming, a demonstration area of rice-crayfish integrated farming and Jiangsu’s pilot zone of modern agriculture. Due to COVID-19 prevention and control measures, Xuyi has stressed online efforts to boost the sales and also cooperated with main supermarket chains.
