Two teams from Nanjing Foreign Language School (NFLS) and NFLS Hexi Junior Campus won first prize at the 5th Shamrock Cup Middle School Students English Speaking Contest on December 6. This achievement earns them a week-long study tour in Ireland.
The latest edition of the contest was co-hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Cork County Council and the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai. Over the years, the event has fostered people-to-people exchanges between the province and the county, which celebrate the 10th anniversary of their friendly relationship this year. At the award ceremony, Shen Yanfei, deputy director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office, praised the English speaking contest in Jiangsu and the Meihua Cup Chinese speaking contest in Cork as hallmarks of close cooperation.
Francis O'Flynn, Mayor of the County of Cork, reflected on the memorable experiences of the two winning teams in the Meihua Cup during their trip to China, which began in Nanjing last month. He also noted that the ten finalist teams in the Shamrock Cup demonstrated passion, talent, language proficiency, and a deep understanding of Irish culture and heritage.
