A program that facilitates summer internships in Jiangsu Province for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan held its opening ceremony in Nanjing on July 11.
As part of the nationwide program, the Jiangsu edition included students currently studying in the province’s universities as well as those visiting the mainland for the first time.
During the first half of the year, the province identified 114 internship opportunities provided by 36 workplaces, covering fields of information technology, architectural engineering, science and technology, education, healthcare, culture and communication, and legal affairs.
A total of 33 students from 7 universities in Jiangsu and four universities from Taiwan and Macao are taking the one-month internship at 16 organizations in the province.
On the afternoon of July 11, the participants visited a center of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, which offers services to members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). They gained a deep understanding of research fields and achievements of the CAS and CAE members. In an exhibition hall, students were impressed by the academicians' manuscripts and letters from their early years of research, as well as their dedication to serving the motherland and the people while undertaking pioneering research in difficult situations.
Later, during the visit to the Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island, they learned about efforts to protect biodiversity, embrace low-carbon operations, and develop a resort zone featuring culture and tourism. Other topics covered included eco-friendly technology, industrial planning, and smart city solutions.
