The appointment ceremony for the Jiangsu Youth Friendship Envoy 2023 was held in Nanjing on July 13.
The 23 newly honored members included foreign experts, employees of Chinese enterprises as well as those who have made outstanding contributions to promoting exchanges in the fields of education, medical care and culture.
One of the friendship ambassadors is Wang Yue, the Chinese head of the Confucius Classroom at Hungarian-Chinese Bilingual School. Wang has been teaching Chinese at the school since 2011 and has also organized students to actively participate in activities such as the Spring Festival Gala and contests related to reading or writing Chinese.
Prior to the Spring Festival, Varga Bonita and Imre Tamara, two Hungarian students whose Chinese names are Hu Lingyue and Song Zhixiao, wrote a letter to President Xi Jinping and his wife, Professor Peng Liyuan, on behalf of all students in the school, conveying their New Year's greetings. They later received a reply letter from President Xi, which encouraged teachers and students of the school.
Wang said she and her colleagues will continue to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Hungary. She also hopes that students will have more opportunities to visit Jiangsu.
Another envoy is Ma Li, director of Danyang Kseibi Tools Co Ltd. The 22-year-old is a Syrian and came to China with her parents in 2006. After receiving education in China since childhood, she has gained a deep understanding of China's history and culture. "I studied and grew up here and have long considered this beautiful country as my second home," she said.
To enhance cross-cultural communication, she often posts vlogs on social media platforms and now has more than 10,000 followers. She hopes to use social media to build bridges for friendship and cooperation, encouraging more people to understand and respect cultural diversity.
The Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government took the national lead in 2011 to start the Youth Friendship Envoy program to better promote the province’s international communication and people-to-people exchanges. The program has recognized 416 young individuals as friendship envoys, becoming a flagship project in the province’s foreign affairs work.
