Zhangji Primary School, located in Shouxian Town, Fengxian County of Xuzhou City, has celebrated a milestone of opening a new playground equipped with all facilities.

The 4,300-sqm playground includes tartan running tracks, a standard basketball court and a long jump runway and pit.

As the most northwestern and remote school in Jiangsu Province, it has 12 classes with 524 students, among which 100 are left-behind children. The school lacked fund to build a playground and basketball court so students had limited choices of sports and cultural programs. Among other difficulties, the school’s south gate was not put into use for a long time because the road was never built.

The change happened when Zhang Zhenqi, first Part secretary of Zhangji village and also member of an anti-poverty team established by the CPC Jiangsu Committee, tried his best to address the problem.

Zhang reported the problem to Jiangsu Provincial Government State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and helped raise over 700,000 yuan. In addition to the new road and facilities, the fund also enabled the school to make other improvements and purchase supplies including chairs and desks to create a better environment.
