As the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement took effect on January 1, Kunshan Customs House issued a certificate of origin under the new agreement to Kleemann (China) for its exports valued at $27,000, the first such trade document in Jiangsu Province.
Zhang Honghong, the company’s logistics manager, said that the FTA will bring tariff preferences and stabilize trade cooperation with the Maldives market.
According to the agreement, China and Maldives will eliminate tariffs for more than 95% of traded products, in terms of both tariff lines and trade value.
China's main exports to the Maldives include machinery, electrical equipment, furniture, steel products, as well as flowers, vegetables and other agricultural products. Maldives' exports to China mainly include aquatic products and textiles.
