Preparations are well underway for the 20th edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which will take place in Nanjing from March 21 to 23, marking the debut of this top-tier event in China.
During the three days of action, approximately 600 athletes from 150 countries and regions are expected to compete for medals across 26 disciplines, such as the 60 meters, 1,500 meters, 4×400 meters relay, long jump, pole vault, shot put, women's pentathlon, and men's heptathlon.
The WIC Nanjing 25 represents a major sporting event, following the city’s successful hosting of the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 and several other international competitions, including the BWF World Championships and FIBA Basketball World Cup.
In May and December 2024, World Athletics conducted two comprehensive inspections in Nanjing, highly recognizing the city's “soft power” in organizing events and expressing great confidence in the venue conditions, according to local officials. The WIC Nanjing 25 will certainly enhance the city’s development in hosting world-class sporting competitions.
