In the first two months of this year, Jiangsu’s foreign trade with nine BRICS member countries reached 102.22 billion yuan, a historic high with year-on-year growth of 36%, according to Nanjing Customs.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, and Ethiopia joined BRICS on January 1, doubling its membership from 5 to 10. This expansion has provided enterprises with more opportunities.

Specifically, Jiangsu’s trade values with India and Brazil were 25.31 billion yuan and 23.87 billion yuan, respectively, marking growths of 12.1% and 36.4%.

Jiangsu’s private enterprises were the largest contributors to the trade boom. In the export sector, intelligent home appliances have proved popular in emerging markets. For example, Suzhou-based Dreame Technology recently shipped robotic vacuums worth $67,000 to India by sea. The company’s customs specialist Zhou Shengluan attributed this success to the strategy of catering to local preferences.

In Wuxi City, smart production lines at Sunova Solar Technology are producing photovoltaic components for a Brazilian export order valued at about 2.16 million yuan. Its business manager Tian Tian noted that Brazil has a vast market for being one of the few countries with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and has become a key market for the company.
