Jiangsu provincial government has recently released an action plan to drive high-quality development of its marine economy.
Jiangsu will give full play to its extensive waterway network and coastal areas to foster a new marine economic landscape. With five major initiatives, the province will implement significant projects and innovation platforms to facilitate the rise of emerging fields and move up the value chain. The gross marine product is estimated to reach 420 billion yuan by 2025 and 680 billion yuan by 2030, making marine economy a new driver of Jiangsu’s high-quality development.
Jiangsu plans to accelerate the research and development of core equipment and key technologies, nurture competitive industrial chains and leading enterprises, and advance the development of Nantong, Lianyungang and Yancheng as pilot cities of marine economy.
The province aims to enhance marine industries related to technology, information, and high-end shipping services, deepen the integration of modern service industry and advanced manufacturing industry, and establish a technology innovation system featuring close cooperation between industry, universities, and businesses of various sizes.
Jiangsu will ensure the progress in digital and green transformation amid the rise of its marine economy. The province will also support platforms for open and effective cooperation in the marine economy, both domestically and internationally.
