The gross domestic product of Jiangsu's marine economy in the first six months of the year reached approximately 483 billion yuan, an increase of 6.8% year-on-year.
The marine transport industry has maintained steady growth, with infrastructure investment in ports and waterways totaling 12.78 billion yuan in the first six months, up 7.1% year-on-year. During the same period, Jiangsu's ports along the river and sea handled 1.35 billion tonnes of cargo and 11.27 million TEUs, up 4.7% and 5.6% year-on-year, respectively.
The province also registered growths in three major indicators of the shipbuilding industry. Jiangsu's shipbuilding output hit 10.02 million deadweight tonnes (dwt) during the period, increasing 50.4% compared to the same period last year. New orders, another major indicator of the shipbuilding industry, rose 140.3% year-on-year to 18.13 million dwt. The holding orders totaled more than 57.28 million dwt at the end of June, a 26.2% year-on-year expansion. The three indicators accounted for 47.4%, 48.1% and 46.3% of the nation's total in the period, respectively.
For example, Nantong as a manufacturing hub of marine engineering equipment in Jiangsu, has been experiencing explosive growth. In the six months, the city delivered 35 ships and equipment orders, with the industry output increasing by 19.2% year-on-year. Some shipbuilders in the city hold orders extending beyond 2027.
Furthermore, the province's emerging marine industries also showed strong recovery. In the first half of the year, the province's offshore wind power generation reached 22.68 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 0.9% year-on-year. The cumulative installed capacity of offshore wind power generation totaled 17.645 million kilowatts, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year.
