Jiangsu's postal delivery businesses received about 2.52 billion pieces of parcels by April 9, an increase of 15%, according to the province's Postal Administration.
"Last year the average daily delivery volume was 1,100-1200 pieces, and it jumped to 1500-1600 pieces per day, an increase of more than 30%," said Wen Dong, an outlet of Alibaba Group's logistics arm Cainiao in Nanjing's Gulou District. The growth came after the local apartment vacancy rate increased gradually from the end of the Spring Festival holiday this year.
The courier sector plays an increasingly important role in facilitating consumption, serving people's livelihood, and driving the economy, especially in accelerating the growth of e-commerce.
The province has also improved its urban and rural logistics system, with 12,300 village-level service stations and 8,082 comprehensive service stations. Courier enterprises have also actively expanded their businesses such as storage and preservation of cold food as well as warehouse and distribution integration.
In addition, express delivery enterprises in Jiangsu have been expanding the air freight channels to Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and other regions, while Nanjing Lukou International Airport and Sunan Shuofang International Airport registered an increasing proportion of cargo volume.
