Gaochun District in Nanjing City became the first pilot area in China to employ an advanced system for monitoring and assessing carbon sources and sinks at the one-kilometer level on March 21.

The CCMVS-GC system can accurately measure carbon sources and sinks from the scale of "5km×5km" to "1km×1km." It can obtain the hourly carbon sink data and information on anthropogenic carbon emissions every 8 days, thus helpingthe local government to make better decisions.

The CCMVS system was first launched by the Monitoring and Assessment Center for GHSs and Carbon Neutrality of China Meteorological Administration on December 20, 2021.

The CCMVS-GC system will be applied in the district’s Qiqiao Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, providing data on carbon emissions from various sources so effective measures can be taken to realize carbon neutrality in the park, according to Zhang Xiaoye, academician of Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences.
