Lawmakers and political advisors from Jiangsu Province shared their views on key goals laid out in the Government Work Report delivered on Mar. 5 by Premier Li Keqiang to the National People's Congress, the national legislature.

China has set its economic growth target at around 5% for 2023. Among other goals, China will ensure the growth of personal income to be basically in step with economic growth, foreign trade to achieve a stable development with enhanced quality, energy consumption per unit of GDP and the discharge of major pollutants to continue declining, and the ecological and environmental quality to show steady improvement.

Wang Jinjian, deputy to the NPC and mayor of Yangzhou City, said this goal is expected to be achieved with joint efforts across the country and will boost confidence in all aspects. Wang added Yangzhou will accelerate the development of major projects, boost consumption recovery, and strengthen services to enterprises by effectively solving the difficulties they face.

Noting that the number of college graduates will reach a record high of 11.58 million in China this year, Shi Weidong, president of Nantong University and also member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said it's important to implement the decisions and plans on the employment of graduates and expand channels for them to find jobs.

NPC deputy Chen Tao, also director of the province's Department of Commerce, said that Jiangsu's foreign trade accounts for nearly 13% of China's total and plays a pivotal role in the overall situation of the country. Stressing the importance of foreign trade in driving economic growth, Chen said Jiangsu will support enterprises to go global and participate in domestic and overseas exhibitions, advance the construction of cross-border e-commerce industrial parks and overseas warehouses. In addition, Jiangsu will strengthen relief measures and reduce burdens for enterprises.

Wang Tianqi, deputy to the NPC and also director of the province's Department of Ecology and Environment, said that Jiangsu will continue to support enterprises to use renewable energy and eco-friendly materials, and carry out ecological protection and restoration in more scientific ways. Besides, industrial parks will also need to set limits on the pollutant emission.
