The total length of rail lines in Jiangsu Province has reached 4,277 kilometers including high-speed lines that are 2,218 kilometers long, said Zhu Peide, deputy director of the province's railway office.
In February, Nanjing saw more than 5.3 million railway passenger trips, an increase of 74.6% compared to the same period last year, according to Nanjing Railway station staff Duan Lilei.
The province has railway lines under construction that span 1,282 kilometers and plans to complete railway investment of 50 billion yuan this year. Jiangsu aims to realize the 1.5-hour train travel trip between Nanjing and the province's 12 other cities that have subordinate districts and one hour's travel between Nanjing and key cities in the Yangtze River Delta. The travel time between Jiangsu's cities with subordinate districts will be less than 2.5 hours.
Data also showed that business trips by trains are increasing at the same time.
Su Weixun, land transport director from Sinotrans Landbridge Transportation Co Ltd, said high-speed trains have brought comprehensive opportunities. Clients used to transport goods between Central Asia and Japan or South Korea via the Siberian Landbridge, but now they opt to use Lianyungang as transit port for the sea-rail multimodal transport.
