Jiangsu will implement a series of measures aimed at upgrade urban and rural living environment, according to a work conference held on February 28.

Focusing on the concerns of the young people and "new urban residents" in the urbanization, the province plans to expand the government-subsidized rental housing project. This will include building 150,000 apartments, according to the Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Jiangsu Province.

Jiangsu will continue its urban renewal campaign and support the development of high-quality green buildings. Efforts will be made to conserve water in urban areas, manage the water environment, and handle household waste. The province will also improve the functionality and quality of urban landscaping, and promote the green development in urban and rural areas.

Other measures include promoting the sharing of car parks, adding 85,000 public parking spaces, and building or renovating 300 pocket parks or small outdoor public spaces.

To improve rural housing conditions, Jiangsu plans to promote the high-quality development of the countryside. The province aims to recognize 130 villages featuring unique characteristics, strengthen the protection and development of traditional villages, and launch the seventh round of traditional village recognition.
