Suzhou plans to increase the fleet of Robotaxi, self-driving taxis, in July as autonomous car for commercial use has picked up momentum in China.
Suzhou became the first city in China to operate the regular unmanned bus routes using 5G network in October 2020, when Qcraft rolled out its automated buses first in Suzhou High-Speed Rail New Town.
Then during the World IoT Expo in last November, Qcraft upgraded the self-driving bus service to support the online-based ride-hailing functions, allowing passengers to request pick-ups.
Yu Qian, CEO of Qcraft, said the company’s automated buses offer regular services in ten cities including Wuxi, Shenzhen and Beijing. This covers 27 bus routes with 128 bus stations and a total road length of 112 kilometers long. More than 200,000 passengers have taken trips by self-driving buses, and no accident has been reported, according to Yu.
