As Myanmar's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) went into effect on May 1, Changzhou Sudian Trade Co Ltd became the first in Jiangsu Province to receive the RCEP certificate of origin for exports worth $54,000 to the country on the same day.
The company, specialized in trade with Southeast Asia, has 90% of its exports to Myanmar, which reached 108 million yuan in 2021. The main goods are agricultural machinery products and accessories. It received the trade document from Changzhou Customs House, affiliated to Nanjing Customs.
Meanwhile in Huai’an City, LEOCH Battery, an approved exporter under the RCEP agreement, also made the first declaration of origin for goods worth $23,200 to Myanmar. This document made the products to get zero tariffs upon entering the market in Myanmar, to which the company’s exports in 2021 totaled more than $500,000.
Under the trade agreement, exporters will have a number of options on the type of proof of origin documentation they can use, including the certificate of origin issued by Customs and self-declaration by approved exporters.
According to Nanjing Customs, in the first quarter of this year, Jiangsu's imports and exports to Myanmar amounted to 3.01 billion yuan, an increase of 42.8% year-on-year.
