In attending the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, in Beijing, Li Chengxia, NPC deputy and also chairman of Trade Union at Changzhou Laosan Group, called for young people to improve their job skills for career advancement.
Li has worked on the frontline of the garment factory for more than 20 years and held different positions in her career, transforming herself from a sewing assistant to senior garment technician engineer.
Li said she feels inspired by the Government Work Report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang, especially the pledge to help more people develop professional skills and have a large number of well-trained professionals in all trades.
Young people need to be committed to learning the most advanced technology and the latest theory and knowledge, said Li.
She also said she’s concerned that some young people avoid becoming workers partly because of the unattractive salary package. So she has proposed to give full play to the role of vocational certificates, which can take workers up the career ladder and also attract young newcomers.
