Jiangsu’s GDP totaled over 2.587 trillion yuan in the first quarter of 2021, up 19.2% year on year, according to the Jiangsu Provincial Statistics Bureau on April 21.
From January to March this year, growth in added value was reported in 38 of the province's 40 industrial categories. The equipment manufacturing industry saw the strongest growth, up 43.2%, 9.6 percentage points higher than the expansion of the industrial enterprises above designated size.
The value added of the high-tech manufacturing industry, which plays a critical role in promoting economic transformation and high-quality development, grew by 36.5%, also 2.9 percentage points higher than that of major industrial enterprises.
In addition, the sector of computer, telecommunication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry climbed up by 36.2% year on year, and a growth of 25.5% was recorded in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, continuing the robust development momentum since last year.
In the first quarter, Jiangsu’s foreign trade increased by 25.7% year on year to reach over 1.13 trillion yuan, accounting for 13.3% of China's total. Specifically, exports reached 698.69 billion yuan, up 33.1%, and imports of 431.33 billion yuan, up 15.3%.
In the coastal province, delivery value of exports of industrial enterprises above the designated size rose by 31.3% year on year during the period, and the two-year average growth was 7.4%.
