As the COVID-19 prevention and control situation remains very severe and complicated, Jiangsu’s airports and airlines have strengthened the organization and coordination to ensure a strong recovery.
In line with the new development pattern of "dual circulation," which takes the domestic market as the mainstay while letting internal and external markets boost each other, the province's airports have opened more cargo routes and increased the transport capacity.
In January, Jiangsu saw its air cargo and mail volume rise 35.6% year on year, 6.3 percentage points higher than the average in East China. Nine airports in Jiangsu maintained double-digit growth. Among them, three airports in Nanjing, Lianyungang and Huai’an reported a record high in cargo transport in a single month, up 36.1%, 148.9% and 247.4% respectively.
Sunan Shuofang International Airport also reversed the trend of declining growth since the suspension of cargo routes bound for Europe and saw a year-on-year growth of 28.3%.
Domestic cargo and mail volume increased by 35.2% year-on-year, 46.7 percentage points higher than the same period last year. International cargo and mail volume rose by 56.1% year-on-year, 71.3 percentage points higher than the same period last year, maintaining a high growth rate of around 50% for three consecutive months. Three airports in Nantong, Nanjing and Yancheng reported growth of international cargo and mail at 298.0%, 123.1% and 112.6%, respectively.
