Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration has rolled out two regulations to improve safe navigation in sea areas where construction of offshore wind farm and port is in full swing in Nantong City.
The coastal city is home to important projects under key national development strategies including the Belt and Road initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Yangtze River Delta regional integration. For example, the Great Tongzhou Bay project, which will provide a new gateway to the ocean, has started construction, and some of the offshore wind farms have completed construction. Nantong is now in an accelerated pace of port and offshore wind energy development.
Sun Xinyu, deputy director of Nantong Maritime Safety Administration, said the city plans to build 23 offshore wind projects, with 15 under construction now. During the 14th Five Year Plan, Nantong is expected to see a rapid growth of port calls and a significant increase of vessels for various purposes, which will pose new safety risks.
The two regulations will help ensure the safe navigation of ships as well as smooth progress of offshore wind farm and port development.
